Fashion’s Night Out Gets its Own CBS Special

Sarah attended Fashions Night Out a while back, and it appears that the event will be airing on CBS in it’s very own special. Check it out:

Fashion’s Night Out — the multi-city event invented to boost the slumping retail industry — will be the subject of a one-hour prime-time special on CBS, airing Sept. 15 at 8 p.m.

Now in its second year, the annual event was launched in 2009 by Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and NYC & Company in response to the striking decline in fashion retail sales sparked by the recession.

The TV special will focus on the second year of Fashion’s Night Out (scheduled for Sept. 10), taking viewers behind the scenes of its planning and preparation, then documenting the night itself in various cities around the world. Cameras will follow celebrities, designers, editors and retailers — though the organization’s not naming names yet. The special also will focus on a handful of undersung professionals in the fashion industry, including salespeople and design staff.

Last September, Fashion’s Night Out was staged in 13 different cities (including L.A.). In New York, where the organization is based, more than 800 stores in the five boroughs took part in the event — and celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler performed.

Salem ghosts in Sarah Jessica Parker’s family tree?

Turns out Sarah might not be the only one to have been a witchy woman:

In “Sex and the City,” Sarah Jessica Parker bewitched the Big Apple – and as it turns out, the “Sex” siren may be descended from witches!

The New England Historic Genealogical Society researched SJP’s family tree for a new NBC show “Who Do You Think You Are?” and discovered her family line “is connected to the Salem Witch Trials of 1692,” a Society spokesman said.

Researcher Josh Taylor worked with Parker in Boston last year to trace her roots for the show that takes a peek into the family history of a number of famous faces. The genealogically inclined boldfacers include Parker’s hubby Matthew Broderick, Hollywood stars Susan Sarandon and Brooke Shields, director Spike Lee, NFL legend Emmitt Smith and former “Friends” star – and show producer – Lisa Kudrow.

“We were asked to participate in the project in terms of helping to find the family background of a number of celebrities,” said NEHGS spokesguy Rick Stockwood. “And Sarah Jessica Parker actually came to Boston to meet with Josh and he gave her some information on her connection to Massachusetts.”

Society researcher Gary Boyd Roberts traveled to NYC to film a bit on family lines of European royalty. Word is, it may have something to do with Brooke Shields. A royal descendant perhaps?

Check it out when “Who Do You Think You Are?” premieres at 8 p.m. March 5.

SJP Auctions off SATC2 Premiere Tickets

Looks like Sarah will not be attending the Sex and the City 2 premiere, all for a good cause ;)

Sarah Jessica Parker may be missing the premiere of “Sex and the City 2″ — and it’s not because the actress is too busy or has better things to do.

Carrie Bradshaw’s alter ego has donated her tickets to the event to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) cause in an auction for $11,000! Hollywood Life reports that the tickets were auctioned off at the Human Rights Campaign’s 9th annual gala at NYC’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Feb. 6.

Sarah Jessica was not the only star on hand at the event who took part in the auction. “Ugly Betty” star Michael Urie auctioned off a dinner date with himself (kisses included!). “Real Housewives of New York City” mother hen Jill Zarin and “Project Runway” mentor Tim Gunn donated a joint day of lunch and shopping to the highest bidder.

Jill was introduced as “the LGBT community’s favorite housewife” and kicked off the event by expressing her support of the cause. “I can’t stand the fact the LGBT Americans are still being treated like second class citizens,” she declared, garnering cheers and applause from the crowd.

The lucky bidder who snagged the “SATC 2″ tickets will have to wait until the Spring to check out the premiere, but we’re sure they are already planning their fabulous outfit!

More Halston Details

Sarah is finally opening up about her role in Halston. Check it out:

When we first heard about Sarah Jessica Parker’s collaboration with Halston’s Heritage line, we knew it was a match made in fashion heaven. However, we didn’t know just how much SJ Parker is investing in her new endeavour. It has been confirmed that SJP will reign as president and chief creative officer of Halston. “I think this is a brand new kind of business model and it illustrates how serious I am about this position,” said Parker. “I think it’s wonderful to feel invested in something.”

Her deal with the fashion house also includes a seat on the Halston board, alongside CEO Bonnie Takhar, and owning equity stake in the firm. No doubt this is a serious gig, and SJP had no qualms about admitting it. “There is a huge amount I don’t know and I am very candid about that, and I am excited to learn. There are going to be things that come up that I am equipped to deal with and answer and respond to, and there are things that I will be happily mentored on by Bonnie. I have no allergy to learning.” We believe in you, Sarah!

More Than the New Face of Halston?

I’m really hoping that news in Sarah land will pick up soon, but for now I’m just going to post tidbits that you might find interesting. I’m also in the process of coding a new layout for the site since this one, although lovely, has been up for awhile. There will also be a few surprises in store as well, but you will just have to be patient for those ;)

Remember how we posted that SJP is the new face of Halston? Well, she might be something more. Check it out:

We hear that the Sex and the City fashion icon may end up with a much bigger role at the revived design house. A source tells us that Parker may actually land some sort of consulting gig with Halston. Titles being bantered about include creative director and design director.

No matter what—whether Parker is behind the scenes or her image is plastered in ads and promo material—Halston execs would be smart to bring her on board.

Just wearing a white Halston dress in the upcoming Sex and the City movie sequel garnered tons of press for them. In fact, another source says, “There’s quite a lot of vintage Halston in the movie.”

Plus, Parker has experience with the release of her own line, Bitten, about three years ago and has had megasuccess with her fragrance collection.

Parker’s rep did not a comment. A rep for Halston could not be reached.

So technically not official yet, so just mark it as a rumor until we hear more :)

Q&A: New Movie, New Yorker

Sarah recently sat down with the Associated Press and answered a couple of their questions. Check it out:

AP: So what attracted you to the “Morgans” role?

Sarah Jessica Parker: Hugh Grant. The idea of a romantic comedy with Hugh Grant.

AP: Would you class yourself as a New Yorker?

SJP: I would, I’ve lived there for 32 years now; it’s the only place I’ve lived as a grown up and it’s everything I know. My home’s there, my children, my extended family, my parents. I love a city, and I specifically love New York City, and I have from the very first moment I stepped foot on the island.

AP: How would you define a New Yorker?

SJP: Independent, candid, devoted, impatient, hospitable, proud.

AP: There’s a scene in the film where Grant’s character gives your character a CD of New York noises so that she can sleep. Do you share some of those feelings?

SJP: I really actually do, I have a problem with too much quiet — from the time I was a little girl, I think partially because I’m one of eight kids. It was always just chaos in my house. I always remember noise and for me, it’s honestly like a lullaby — the sound of sirens and taxis honking and people honestly screaming at each other, which we hear all the time. I love that.
